Puerto Calero has just acquired a first fully electric vehicle for the marina as part of a wider project to reduce harmful emissions, noise pollution and to advance the shift towards decarbonisation.
Amongst other related endeavours, Calero Marinas’ future plans include the installation of charging facilities for EVs in both Lanzarote marinas as an additional service for visitors and residents. The rental car company in both marinas, Cabrera Medina, already offers a wide variety of electric vehicles for their customers with a decent network of charging points in place around the island.
Having flown the Blue Flag for over nearly 25 years, Puerto Calero has set the pace in the Canary Islands for responsible environmental marina management. Some of this year’s activities include an awareness campaign about angel sharks, a non-aggressive benthic fish listed as critically endangered; an exhibition on the effects of plastic pollution in the ocean, and a treasure hunt for families and school children that helps develop ocean literacy.
