– Organised by the Grand Pavois Organisation and in collaboration with Calero Marinas, the rally connects the islands of Lanzarote, Mindelo and Guadeloupe.
Marina Lanzarote, 24th October. This morning the fifth edition of the Rallye des Iles du Soleil, organised by the Grand Pavois Organisation (GPO) in collaboration with Calero Marinas, was presented in Marina Lanzarote’s Espacio B30.
This sailing rally, which will depart from Marina Lanzarote on October 27th at 11 am, is due to feature a fleet of 18 participating boats, mainly of French nationality, and the route will link the islands of Lanzarote, Mindelo and Guadeloupe.
This is a cruising event where social and community aspects are paramount; beyond competitiveness, value is placed on creating community spirit amongst the fleet, enjoying a safe passage, and exploring the culture, gastronomy and history of each destination.
The presentation ceremony was attended by José Calero, president of Calero Marinas, who described the significance of an organisation such as GPO choosing the Group’s marinas and the Canary Islands to hold such an event: “It is an honour to host the Rallye des Iles du Soleil and to welcome these sailors and make them feel at home. This will always be one of the core values of Calero Marinas”, he said.
For his part, the president of the Grand Pavois Organisation, Alain Pochon, stressed that in organising this event, the GPO sought to provide a rally where sailors with less experience, even families with children, can feel more assured of a safe Atlantic crossing and where community and sustainability values are also rewarded.
Héctor Fernández, CEO of SPEL (Society for the Promotion of Lanzarote Overseas) spoke of his entity’s commitment to nautical events of this level, which serve to boost the destination and to highlight values such as sustainability and safety, which are fully aligned with Turismo Lanzarote’s promotional strategy.
Jonathan de León, the Mayor of Arrecife, described Arrecife’s links with the French community and the importance for nautical events as a means to promote the city, given the natural and cultural heritage value of the city’s waterfront area and the modern infrastructure offered by Marina Lanzarote.
The speeches were drawn to a close by Jacobo Medina, vice-president of the Cabildo, adding the relevance of public-private collaboration for the promotion of the island and referring to his confidence in Arrecife as a nautical destination.
The rally can be followed via the website https://www.rallye-ilesdusoleil.com/ and on Marina Lanzarote and Rally des Iles du Soleil’s social media platforms.
The Rallye des Iles du Soleil counts on invaluable sponsorship from the Cabildo de Lanzarote, Turismo Lanzarote, Lanzarote European Sports Destination, the Arrecife Town Hall and Turismo Arrecife, together with the collaboration of the Cicar group.
