This will continue to be the only event in Spain where the winning team qualifies directly for the World Fishing Championship in Costa Rica.
Everything is in place for the start of the XXXI edition of the Puerto Calero Marlin Cup, which this year will be held in tag and release mode, highlighting the conservation of marine species. In this edition, the exclusive quarry will be marlin; the only species to qualify within the competition.
The event will begin on Thursday, 3rd October, with registration and the skippers’ meeting, all taking place from 7pm in the Plaza de Las Carpas.
Broad participation is expected, with more than 50 boats joining the event, mostly from the islands of Lanzarote, La Graciosa, Fuerteventura, Tenerife and Gran Canaria. In addition, the tournament will be attended by team members from the Iberian Peninsula, which reinforces the international character of this competition.
Fishing will be held on Friday 4th and Saturday 5th October. The gun is scheduled to go off at 9:00 am sharp and residents and tourists are invited to come to Puerto Calero to enjoy the ceremony of this spectacular fleet leaving the marina and heading out to the fishing grounds.
The XXXI Puerto Calero Marlin Cup is a highly prestigious championship, given that the winning team will qualify directly for the World Fishing Championship in Costa Rica. This tournament is the only event in Spain that offers this opportunity, which makes it an unmissable event for sport fishing enthusiasts.
The tournament will culminate on Saturday 5 October with the prize-giving ceremony for the winning teams. Closing with a flourish, at 11pm, the band Inerxia will perform a concert (open to the public) in Puerto Calero, to which all those wishing to enjoy a night of music and celebration are invited.
The tournament is organised by Calero Marinas, in collaboration with the Club de Pesca Wahoo Azul Puerto Calero, and has the support of entities such as Islas Canarias, Turismo Lanzarote, Ayuntamiento de Yaiza (through its Sports Department), as well as the sponsors Cicar, Aon, Grupo Santander, Ereza, Grupo Tiagua and Maderas Marcial González.
