Composting workshop, presented by Yiyi Sanz from Lanzarote Recicla
On Friday 28th July, Yiyi Sanz from Lanzarote Recicla will be in Puerto Calero to give one of his fascinating presentations on composting – both as a means of enriching soil for growing plants and vegetables and also reducing our domestic waste by up to a very significant 40%.
During the demonstration, he will explain how to get started with making compost, including the type of container required and how to make your own composter at home, avoiding bad smells and flies.
Yiyi Sanz has years of experience in the sphere of environmental management and has carried out numerous educational campaigns in schools where particularly over the last year he has been working with school children to create composting projects on school grounds, conveying the importance of reducing the amount of rubbish generated at home and at school and producing an accessible solution for recycling organic waste.
Waste generation is globally considered to be a major problem; made worse due to its impact on fragile ecosystems and the limited amount of space available to store waste – especially on islands. Waste production hasn’t stopped growing over recent decades, related in part to an expanding population and a consumer-driven lifestyle.
One of our society’s challenges is how to adopt new approaches that look to making far more effective use of the resources we have: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.
Join us then in Puerto Calero and discover the immense satisfaction of turning your vegetable kitchen waste into rich, beautiful compost!
- Date: Friday, 28th July
