Showtime and Exodus came second and third respectively in a very intense last day of the tournament.
Last Saturday was the second day of the XXXI edition of the Puerto Calero Marlin Cup, a sport fishing tournament that, once again, brought together the region’s top fishing teams in the waters of Lanzarote. Despite the wind and sea conditions not offering the most ideal conditions for fishing, participants demonstrated their great experience and passion for this sport, turning the day into a new opportunity to experience the thrill of the sea and the excitement of competition.
Right from the start, the crews were full of eager anticipation for the day’s fishing, knowing they’d already hooked two blue marlins on the first outing. Pedro Boni’s Showtime was leading the pack with a blue marlin catch, while Luis Padrón’s Exodus was in second place.
Throughout the day, there were moments of great intensity, with several strikes and at least four certified blue marlins: Jessiran 1, Blue Fin, Pura Vida and, to everyone’s surprise, Naomi, which caught its second blue at the last minute, securing its victory.
The final standings were as follows:
- Naomi (Juan Cabrera) – 2 certified blues (Highest score award). The Naomi took the qualification to the World Fishing Championship in Costa Rica.
- Showtime (Pedro Boni) – 2nd highest score.
- Exodus (Luis Padrón) – 3rd highest score.
During the awards ceremony, Jessica de León, Tourism Councillor of the Canary Islands Government, emphasised the importance of the Canarian business sector in the tourism industry, citing Calero Marinas as a prime example with over forty years of experience, more than a thousand berths in operation in the archipelago, and a key developer of nautical tourism, providing value and quality to tourism visiting the islands.
The final touch was provided by the group Inerxia, who rounded off a pleasant evening in the marina of Puerto Calero and made this edition an unforgettable experience for all participants and attendees.
Finally, the latest news is that the 2026 edition of the Calero Marinas Marlin Cup is now confirmed as taking place in the new Calero Marinas project in Fuerteventura, Marina Jandía, which promises to continue raising the category of the tournament in the coming years.
The tournament is organised by Calero Marinas, in collaboration with the Club de Pesca Wahoo Azul Puerto Calero, and has the support of entities such as Islas Canarias, Turismo Lanzarote, Ayuntamiento de Yaiza (through its Sports Department), as well as the sponsors Cicar, Aon, Grupo Santander, Ereza, Grupo Tiagua and Maderas Marcial González.
