MARINA LANZAROTE TO HOST THE PRESTIGIOUS PANERAI TRANSAT CLASSIQUE
LANZAROTE PAYS TRIBUTE TO YACHTING’S GOLDEN AGE
Calero Marinas are honoured to have been chosen to host the departure of the Panerai Transat Classique. This spectacular fleet in Arrecife will be berthed in Marina Lanzarote for the week prior to their departure on the 7th January 2015, where participant yachts will prepare for the race.
The race is organised by the Atlantic Yacht Club, based in Douarnenez France, headed by Race Director, François Serruzier whose experience and seamanship is complimented by the prestige and elegance of the luxury Italian watchmaker Officine Panerai, offical sponsors of the race.
The Panerai Transat Classique, a biennial event, is open to monohull sailing yachts that comply with the Atlantic Yacht Club’s definition of a “classic yacht”, this being:
– Yachts built before 31 December 1976 that have not been substantially modified from their original plans and that have been built as one-offs or in a limited non-industrial series.
– Replica yachts that, regardless of their launch date, were built to plans pre-dating the end of 1976, and in accordance with techniques of that period.
– Yachts built in the spirit of the classic yachts, of the period in which they were built and built as one-offs
A number of these beautiful yachts have already confirmed their places for this nearly 3,000nm long race to Martinique in the Caribbean, some of which will be arriving as early as August meaning that Arrecife will be able to enjoy these “grandes dames” for nearly six months until the start of the race.
Arrecife has a strong maritime tradition and Marina Lanzarote is proud to be home to one of the island’s most traditional shipwrights who have been building wooden schooners for generations. The team in Marina Lanzarote is currently busy preparing for what promises to be a very exciting season!
