Puerto Calero’s eco-open day, the “Jornada de la Náutica y el Medio Ambiente #JNMA2018” takes place this year on Sunday 3rd
-
Local watersports schools and associations are offering a free opportunity to try sailing, diving, SUP, free-diving and kayaking.
-
The event also joins with UNEP World Environment Day and World Oceans Day in the fight against plastic pollution.
Surrounded by beautifully clean oceans within one of the world’s biodiversity hotspots, there is plenty to celebrate. Lanzarote is home to an extraordinarily rich marine life with fascinating rare and endemic species. Learning just a little about these helps change our perspective about our oceans. Come and discover some curious facts about the local sea-life.
The island’s sheltered and clear coastal waters and a constant supply of breeze create perfect conditions for enjoying an enviable range of watersports. Local watersports schools and associations have generously offered their time and materials to invite residents and visitors to try sailing, diving, stand-up-paddle, free-diving and kayaking.
Over the last few years, the problem of plastic pollution has gained a wider audience as the grave consequences of an almost indestructible material become inescapably clear. From beach waste, to the tragic deaths of whales and the harsh reality that we need to change our habits the time for action is now. The Jornada will look at ocean waste collected by local boats and offer some solutions for replacing single-use plastics, such as drinking straws.
An event for all the family: come and learn, play and be inspired!
