Nautical Services in Puerto Calero

Food Provisioning

The local farmers’ markets are well worth a visit. These include good examples in Mancha Blanca, held on Sunday and in the square next to San Gines church in Arrecife and also Haría – both held on Saturday. They start at 0900 and finish around 14:00.

There is a supermarket in the marina, open every day from 0800 – 2100 and beyond this there is a good-sized Spar supermarket in Macher. There is another similar-sized Hiperdino supermarket (high street) in Tias where you can also find Tías Fruits (C/La Luchada, 3), selling good quality fruit and veg, together with gourmet products.  The nearest Lidl together with supermarkets opening on Sundays can be found in Puerto del Carmen. Larger hypermarkets are located nearer the airport (Hiperdino, Mercadona) and both of these will deliver to the marina (in the case of Hiperdino, this is free for purchases of over 60€). Ensure that you explain where you are berthed!

Hoisting And Repairs

Puerto Calero’s boatyard has a 90-tonne travel hoist and various workshops. Beyond basic hauling, scrubbing and antifouling, the staff can help organise various specialist services (rigging, engine and outboard servicing, electronic, welding and machining, fibre-glass, etc). For more information please visit our Puerto Calero Boatyard section or contact the yard office: varadero@puertocalero.com Tel: +34 928 510158.  Opening hours are from 0800 – 16:00 from Monday to Friday.

Chandlers

Whilst there isn’t currently a chandlery in Puerto Calero, the boatyard can help with advice on sourcing parts and accessories. Otherwise the best place to go shopping for marine spares and tools is in Arrecife. Lava Tienda Náutica, just around the corner from the Marina Office, stocks Imray charts and pilot books, Garmin, Vetus, Lewmar and Hempel products and much more. The staff are very helpful and speak a variety of languages. Current opening hours are Mon-Fri: 10:00-12:00 and 14:00-18:00 and Saturdays from 09:00 – 13:00. Use your Calero Marinas Club card to obtain a 10% discount. Contact details: jimmy.bada@lavacharter.com Tel: +34 638 380 345

A few minutes’ walk from the marina, the Naos area, just opposite the marina, is replete with a variety of stores including Suministros San Ginés, Sucesores de Hermenegildo Duarte and Inox Naval[/highlight]

Fuel

Puerto Calero offers a fuelling service from the fuel dock located at the end of the breakwater with opening hours from 8.00 – 19:30 every day. If for any reason the attendant is not on the pontoon, please call on VHF ch.09 for service. Payment can be made in cash or by credit card.
Bunkers can be arranged for yachts needing large quantities of fuel; please contact the Marina Office for more information.

Gas

Camping Gaz canisters can be exchanged and purchased via a service offered by the boatyard.

NuB is the name of the most commonly-used domestic gas in the Canaries. These can be exchanged or purchased from a good number of fuel stations, the nearest one being the local fuel station in Macher. Throughout the Canary Islands, domestic gas bottles are filled with butane and not propane. Recent safety measures in filling depots have meant that only Lanzarote and Fuerteventura offer a service for filling those with a Calor Gas blue butane or orange propane fitting; a number of US and Scandinavian bottles with a left-hand feminine fitting and French Jumbo bottles. These can either be taken directly to the DISA depot (open weekdays until 3pm) or left with the boatyard staff who will organise a collection and refill service. (NB. Please allow 2 days for this).
