The RORC Transatlantic Race 2017 is set to be an extra special edition as it will not only form part of the RORC Caribbean Series, won in 2016/2017 by Leopard 3, but will represent the first event in the Atlantic Anniversary Regatta (AAR); a collective celebration of the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda (YCCS)’s 50th Anniversary and the Norddeutscher Regatta Verein (NRV)’s 150th Anniversary. The culmination of the AAR will see the boats race back across the Atlantic from Bermuda to Hamburg in July 2018.
The Royal Ocean Racing Club team will be back in Lanzarote to organise the race, which departs this year on Saturday 25th November. Last year’s fleet featured a highly impressive range of racing yachts from the MOD 70 speed machines to the three highly competitive Class 40s. Majestic maxis and sleek sprinters adorned the marina to the delight of racing enthusiasts and visitors. With the first boat already booked into Marina Lanzarote and predictions of a pretty significant fleet, the fourth RORC Transatlantic Race is looking to be a very exciting event.
In Lanzarote, the race will be hosted by Calero Marinas and supported by the Canary Islands Tourism Authority, the Lanzarote Tourist Board, the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife and Cabrera Medina.
