An elegant fleet of classic yachts set to grace the island’s capital in time for the Christmas festivities
Calero Marinas are delighted to have been chosen once again to host the start of the spectacular Panerai Transat Classique from popular city facility Marina Lanzarote.
A dozen sailing yachts from 11m to 49m, are already pre-registered, including two exceptional three-masted schooners. The Panerai Transat Classique 2019 is expected to attract some 20 yachts, bringing some magnificent “grandes dames” replete with great stories and racing pedigree to the island.
Sponsored by famous Italian watch company Panerai, this 3000nm ocean race is run by the Atlantic Yacht Club with the support of the Comet Organisation team and remains the definitive transatlantic event for classic yachts.
The last decade has put Lanzarote firmly on the global yacht racing map with Volvo Ocean Race and IMOCA 60 training campaigns, RC44 World Championship events, Mini Transats and the RORC Transatlantic Race. Less than 4 years after opening, Marina Lanzarote has become the Canaries’ most desired racing destination and hosted the 3rd edition of the Panerai Transat Classique back in 2015.
On behalf of Calero Marinas, Managing Director Jose Juan Calero expressed his pleasure at the recent announcement of the race: “We are very privileged to be located right in the island’s maritime heritage centre. An event like the Panerai Transat Classique celebrates traditional nautical craftsmanship in its finest form and infers a tremendous prestige on the island.”
